Biorb Intelligent Heater- Will It Live Up To The Hype?

The Biorb Intelligent Heater has been whispered about for a couple years now and yet it has never hit the market.  I just noticed that Reef One is launching the new Intelligent Heater this month.  I haven’t seen one, it looks cool, but I have to wonder if it will live up to the hype.

The idea is great and I think a lot of people will love it, I just hope that it isn’t form over function because a good heater is critical to keeping fish healthy.  Once they are available we will be sure to put a review of them up on our website.

    Hi, We bought a Biorb Life 60L tank the other week. Have 6 tropical fish in and a Biorb intelligent heater. The heater worked fine the first week but now appears to be having trouble heating the tank. It’s around 21-23oC now (UK). I’m wondering if the house is too cold and it can’t cope. Have put the central heating on and it is creeping up again. Has anyone else experienced this problem, is there a minimum external temperature it can cope with? Thanks.

    In the U.S. we don’t have the intelligent heater yet, but it probably heats be default several degrees above room temperature, so if your house is cold your tank will probably be too cold as well. You’ll have to check with Reef One about that though

    @Barrett
    Hi
    Thanks for replying. I’m new to fish keeping so it’s all a stress at the moment! I guess it makes sense to try and keep the house temperature constant. Will check with Reef One as well. Best wishes.

    I have one and it has never reached the correct temp yet. It is in the conservatory which is heated by naturally colder than the living room but the red light has not gone out in 6 weeks. The fish have started to die and the rest are huddled around the heater. I dont think it can cope with a 60L tank….. Help.

    I would look at your heater and see how many watts it is, my guess is you have a 50 watt heater. I recommend you use at least a 100 watt heater

    I bought one of these for my Biube 9 Gallon back in September 2010, when the daytime temperature of our lounge was starting to get too cold for our Tiger & Green Barb’s liking.

    It was great, it kept the water at 26 Deg C, and the fish happy… until now (March 2011)

    I looked at the thermometer, and saw the temp had gone down to 24 Deg. So looked at the Heater, and noticed it’s Green LED was dim, and it’s red one wasn’t ever coming on as usual… on closer inspection I found that the Heater power plug (where it plugs into the “powerpack” Adaptor) had partly MELTED!! The tip had half melted off and the plug body has a big round blobby shape now…

    BTW I don’t have anything else connected to this powerpack except for the air pump (it has a spare plug for the light). The light is on another adaptor, as it is timed.
    So this powerpack adaptor should not have over-heated, ever.

    So now I am looking for another heater :-(

    Don’t buy this, it looks great but may be dangerous!

    Is the Intelligent Heater available in the US yet? I can’t seem to find it anywhere! It doesn’t look like the previous posters have had much luck, though. Is it worth it?
    Thanks!
