WARNINGS ABOUT THE BIORB SCRATCH REMOVER

I have used biorb scratch remover and polish on the inside of my biorb tank. (I first drained & empteied it completely, then used it, then cleaned it thoroughly, then filled it back up and put my fish in it).  However, I just found out that Reef One says that the BIORB SCRATCH REMOVER SHOULD NOT BE USED ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR TANK.

If you do use it on the inside of your tank, you might kill your fish, apparently I was lucky.

WHEN YOUR TANK GETS SCRATCHED

I love my biorb, but I don’t love getting scratches in it when I clean my tank.  I have talked with a lot of other people who get scratches on the inside of their biorb aquariums when they are cleaning it.  The tank gets scratched when you move the ceramic media around with a biorb siphon hose or biorb cleaning pump.  Biorb ceramic media is really rough and if you move it around it WILL SCRATCH your biorb or biube.

WHAT TO DO:

If you are cleaning your biorb fish tank try scooping out the ceramic media with your hand first, placing it in a cup or bowl filled WITH WATER FROM YOUR TANK.  After you remove the ceramic media then siphon your tank and the waste off the bottom of your aquarium.  Then put the ceramic media back in by handfuls so you don’t scratch it.

The Biorb Timer costs about $35-40, depending on where you find it, and in our opinion, its at least $20 too much. It has a red light that illuminates when its time to feed your fish, change your filter, and clean your tank, and that’s it. There’s no sound or alarm, there’s no way to program it or change the time settings.

If you have trouble remembering how long ago you put your biorb service kit filter in your tank, why not put a reminder in your cell phone, or on your calendar, or a sticky note next to your stock of biorb accessories. Just think of it, you could be using a $40 sticky note, or you could spend the money on some more service kits, or other biorb decorations. Either way, unless you really really want it, your money is better spent elsewhere.

We don’t recommend the Biorb Timer, it is a basic biorb accessory that lights up after certain time periods, but doesn’t make any noise, and is pretty expensive. You would be better off to spend the money on some service kits, or on a cool biorb sculpture decoration.
