I am thinking of getting a biorb 60 for a Christmas present for my daughter, the low maintenance is attractive when you have a 4 year old. I've read your comments about the goldfish sometimes not doing well in this tank. Could you please recommend what type of fish would do the best in this type of tank.

Greetings, invested in 16gallon biorb 2 months ago and after required cycling period, all tropical fish are thriving! Think of the 4-6 week cycling period as downtime for your prep-work on which types of fish u want to keep. I've upgraded my air pump to a quieter Whisper20 model that aerates even better! I've got a female betta harem of 5 that loves to surf the currents of the biorb and well as swim laps around the equator of the sphere! They have no issues getting to the surface for air. They're stronger swimmers than u think who seem to thrive after being released from their 1pint tupperware cells. They also get along with several dwarf gourami cousins, golden yellow & sunset red. Cheers!

hi, love my biorb 60, took my two goldfish about a month to feel totally happy. the only downside is that the air motor is quite noisy. i have tried different positions but it doesn't make any difference. i still wouldn't change though

The aeration is sometimes a little strong for betta fish, I have a betta in a 4 gallon and it does fine though. If you set up your aquarium and think the air flow is too strong you can put a clamp or pin on the air hose to slow down the air flow, then you can control the airflow to where you think is reasonable.

Would the aeration system of the Biorb 60 make this tank unsuitable for a Betta? I don't want him to have to fight his way to the surface or end up with fin damage because of the current. I know this is a fairly large tank for one betta, but I've found that aquariums routinely hold less than is advertised, and 16 gallons leaves plenty of room for error (a 12 gallon would be perfect though). Thanks for any insight you can offer.

the number of fish you can keep depends on the size of the tank, and also the type of fish. Some goldfish won't work at all in a biorb, and you might be better off using other fish, I hope that helps

Hi, how many gold fish can I keep in a Biorb? I have heard that that goldfish need twice the space. Can I keep 3 goldfish in a 8-gallon?

A good rule of thumb to go off of is one inch of fish per gallon of water. So if you go by that rule you could have 16 inches of fish, 8 two inch fish, 16 one inch fish and so on. Make sure you keep in mind how big the fish will grow after you buy them though.
